The name „Sundevit“ can be traced back to the children’s book „The Journey to Sundevit“ by the author Benno Pludra. It was first published in 1965 and features eight-year-old Tim Tammer, who lives with his parents in a lighthouse. But Tim’s place of longing is the (fictitious) Sundevit at the Baltic Sea.

The book was turned into a movie in 1966 under the direction of Heiner Carow. He came from Rostock and directed the DEFA classic „The Legend of Paul and Paula“ a few years later.
